Developmental Studies on the small Intestine of the Korean Fetuses

Abstract
We have biometrically measured the small intestines of 243( 6 129, 9 114) Korean fetuses older than four month of age, and have gotten the following conclusions.
1. The duodenum and the each part of the duodenum showed a regular increasing type of development in generally, but after 8th month of fetal age they developed more rapidly. (Fig. 3)
2. The jejunoileum and small intestine developed very rapidly before 8th month of fetal age and after that they grew rather slowly. (Fig. 2, B.C.)
3. It seemed that the circumferences of the each part of the small intestine developed slowly before 8 th month of fetal age and after that they grew rather rapidly.
We found the relationship between the circumferences of each part of the small intestine was as follows:
The superior portion of the duodenumascending portion>upper end of jejunum>lower end of jejunum>lower end of ileum.
These relationships were more distinct during i the later fetal months. (Fig. 4)
4. The ratios of the small intestine to the Crown-Rump-Length and the Body-Length showed that the small intestine relatively grew very rapidly before 5th month of fetal age and from 5th month to 8th month it grew relatively slowly and after 8th month it developed more slowly. (Fig. 5, 6)
5. There was no notable sexual difference in the development of the small intestine.
6. It seemed that there was no racial difference between the development of the small intestine of the Korean fetuses and Japanese fetuses, but it was impossible to confirm the racial difference between the Korean and the European fetuses because of the shortage of research materials of the European races.
